The Populus can fit a sub-$300 budget only after an exact checkout check. Current S and M stock, fit evidence, price limits, and assembly risks.
The AVASTA Populus is a conditional under-$300 candidate, not a guaranteed sub-$300 buy. AVASTA had two M colors available below the cap when checked, but its S colors were sold out and the exact Amazon S variant hid its price until cart. Verify the exact checkout total before treating it as budget-eligible.
This is a research-based single-product review without new hands-on testing. We rechecked the exact ASIN, selected size, seller controls, manufacturer stock, specifications, and displayed price on August 1, 2026. We did not assemble, measure, fit, brake-test, or ride the bike.

The current Populus manufacturer page displayed a sale price below $300 on August 1. Manufacturer-direct S colors were sold out. M Mint Green and M Sky Blue were available, while M White and M Peach were sold out. That is model-family evidence for specific M variants, not proof that every Populus offer stays under the cap.
The exact Amazon ASIN B0BVD23F45 selected Peach, S, and a 15-inch frame. Amazon did not mark that size unavailable, but it hid the price behind an add-to-cart step and its quick-view block said no featured offers were available. We therefore do not certify the exact Amazon offer as under $300.
How we chose
We required a complete pedal bicycle with an exact current ASIN, a repository-mapped product image, a manufacturer record, practical paved-road gearing, and an offer that could be checked against the page’s price ceiling. Only one model in the assigned source had enough evidence, so this is a single-product review rather than a plural roundup.
The manufacturer-direct M offer met the cap when checked. The exact Amazon S offer did not expose a verifiable price outside the cart. We kept those channels and variants separate instead of turning a temporary sale or hidden marketplace price into a standing recommendation.
What the published fit evidence says
AVASTA lists a 6061 aluminum frame, seven-speed drivetrain, linear-pull brakes, 700c aluminum wheels, 700x35c tires, and a stated 300-pound limit. It describes S for riders from 5 feet through 5 feet 9 inches. Amazon’s exact-ASIN size chart describes the selected S as a 15-inch frame for riders 60 through 69 inches tall with 27 through 32-inch inseams.

The real purchase cap is the checkout total
The relevant number includes the selected size and color, seller, shipping, tax, and any required first service. A list price under $300 does not preserve the cap if delivery or immediate assembly work pushes the total over it.

Assembly belongs in the budget
AVASTA says the bike arrives 85% assembled. That still leaves safety-critical work and adjustment. Before riding, check wheel retention, handlebar and stem alignment, pedal installation, tire condition, steering, and both brakes using the instructions for the exact bike.
Stop if a wheel, brake, frame, fork, handlebar, crank, pedal, or steering part may be loose, damaged, or incorrectly installed. If you are not confident in the assembly, include a qualified bicycle mechanic’s inspection in the total cost.
