Hybrid, Commuter, and Everyday Cycling

Everyday bikes should fit the rider, route, cargo, and storage situation. Suspension and extra gears are useful only when they solve a real need.

Choose the bike

Test standover clearance, reach, brake access, mounting points, and the lowest useful gear. A low advertised price can be poor value when assembly and immediate service are added.

Set up for daily use

Secure cargo so it cannot reach the wheel, brake, or drivetrain. Use a lock and parking strategy appropriate to the location and replacement value.
